The Oklahoma State Department of Education has named Piedmont Public Schools teacher Sharon Morgan as one of the twelve finalists for the 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Morgan has been an educator for 17 years, and currently teaches first grade at Piedmont Elementary.

In a press release, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister stated, “These teachers demonstrate incredible talent, creativity and dedication. They represent the best-of-the best, and that is not an easy achievement when you consider how many amazing teachers our state has in all of its schools.  I am honored to recognize our finalists, and I look forward to collaborating with them and sharing their successes with all of Oklahoma.”

Piedmont Superintendent Dr. James White added, “We are very proud of Mrs. Morgan and very fortunate to have her teaching our children at Piedmont.  She is a great representative for our district.”

The 2016 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year will be announced on August 25 in a ceremony at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
