Piedmont Board of Education Statement of Appreciation
We, as the Piedmont Board of Education, take great pleasure in recognizing the collective efforts of our school community to bring positive change to schoolchildren across the state of Oklahoma in the historic Teacher Walk Out of 2018.
We sincerely appreciate our teachers, who through great courage and perseverance have brought attention to the crisis of school funding. You have walked the halls of our State Capitol, talked with Senators and Representatives and demanded focus on the future of Oklahoma, our children.
We say, “thank you”, to our support staff employees, who advocated for the cause of public school education by stepping in to assist in a variety of ways—you prepared materials for our students’ return, you assisted with providing lunches for our students, and you willingly assisted with emergency childcare activities.
And to our community, please accept our deep appreciation for your support of our educators, students, and school district. Our local churches provided emergency childcare to families at no charge. Many of you supplied meals, refreshments, and words of encouragement to our delegation at the Capitol. You are now stepping into the footprints left by teachers who have returned to their classrooms, and you are advocating at the State Capitol for educational funding for Oklahoma’s future.
