This is my 27th year in education and I love my job because I get to work with all of the children at Piedmont Elementary. I graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, IN with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. After teaching special education for 8 years, I earned my Master of Education in Counseling from Houston Baptist University. I am a member of the American School Counselor Association and the Oklahoma School Counseling Association.
This is my 7th year in Piedmont and my 19th year as a elementary counselor. I'm looking forward to another fantastic year with all the Piedmont Wildcats. As school counselor, I work with students individually and in small groups. I also teach guidance lessons in every classroom on a rotating basis. Some of the topics covered are friendship skills, bullying prevention, peer pressure, accepting differences, study skills and career exploration.
Throughout the year I conduct small groups on topics such as anger control, anxiety, self-esteem and social skills. I am also certified as a Calm Waters facilitator. Calm Waters is a group for children who have experienced any type of loss or change within their family. More information about Calm Waters will be available in the newsletter prior to the group starting.
I have many books and resources available for parents. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child. I want to help your child have a positive educational experience at our school.
