The Coronavirus pandemic has us all wading through uncharted waters.  Together, we are giving it our best efforts to not only keep our own families safe, but our community, as well.  It’s difficult to make plans when we are unsure of the timeline and the possibility of increased restrictions. Below are many questions we have received, and the answers for TODAY.  As new information becomes available, we will adjust our answers.


When is in-person graduation for the class of 2020?

We look forward to celebrating our graduates in person Thursday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Scissortail Park in downtown Oklahoma City.

 

As we plan this celebration, we will continue to keep the health of our community at the forefront of our plans. Updates or changes to these plans will be communicated to our school community through email and social media.

 

Will Piedmont Schools reopen for the 2020-2021 school year?

Piedmont Public Schools is establishing a multi-faceted plan to safely educate our students on August 13. We will continue to work with local and state health and education officials to ensure these measures will meet the specific needs of our district, and comply with any required guidelines set by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. We are carefully analyzing the results from the PPS Back to School Survey that was sent to Piedmont families on June 5, 2020.

 

Many specific questions regarding the return to school cannot be answered right now, because the factors regarding COVID-19 are fluid. Thank you for your understanding and support as we establish plans and procedures to protect the health and well-being of our students, teachers and staff.

 

 

How will I know if my child may have come in contact with a student or staff member who has tested positive for the Coronavirus?

The county health department tracks each person who tests positive for COVID-19.  If an individual has tested positive AND attends or has visited one of our schools, the health department will notify district administration. We will then notify the families and employees of that school site. 

 

What about my child’s Special Education Services?

Throughout distance learning, Special Education teachers and providers of related services provided activities and supplemental learning opportunities to meet IEP goals. Virtual education sessions were also made available. If you have questions about Special Education Services, please contact Kiley Rios, Director of Special Services. What about state testing?

The federal government approved Oklahoma’s request to suspend state testing for the 2019-2020 school year. In addition, eighth-grade students will receive an exemption from the required 8th grade ELA test required for obtaining a driver’s permit. Tenth-grade students will be exempt from the required US History end of instruction assessment. The ACT provided to PHS Juniors was canceled and will not be rescheduled. 

 

Will my student-athlete have summer pride and camps?

With careful consideration, Piedmont Athletics will begin the transition to on-campus activities for high school athletes on June 8, 2020. More information can be found in this district-wide email sent May 29, 2020.

 

Is the district Administration building open?

The Administration offices are not open to walk-ins. If you need assistance, we encourage you to email enrollment@piedmontschools.org or call 405-373-2311. 

 

How do I enroll my child for the 2020-2021 school year?

PPS is accepting new enrollments for the 2020-2021 school year via the links and documents provided online. Families are encouraged to visit our website and to click the links to complete enrollment information. Download the necessary forms in fillable PDF, gather the required documents and scan/email them to enrollment@piedmontschools.org.

 

Who do I contact if my student is having technical difficulties with their Chromebook?

Please email help@piedmontschools.org for assistance with your student’s Chromebook. Questions pertaining to particular applications or issues with Google classroom should be directed to edtech@piedmontschools.org.

 

Will child nutrition assistance continue through the summer?

Weekly meal deliveries will continue each Tuesday through the end of July to any Piedmont family who has completed our Child Nutrition Request Form. If your child needs breakfast/lunch assistance, please complete this confidential survey.

 

Will construction continue on the Bond projects?

Construction is set to continue on all bond projects.
