Boundary Realignment FAQs

Q: Will my child be grandfathered in to their current school?

A: Families who want their child to remain at their current school must complete an intra-district transfer form. To keep the process fair for everyone, transfer requests will only be accepted starting on these dates:

  • Transfer requests for the 2026–2027 school year may be submitted on or after June 1, 2026.
  • Transfer requests for the 2027–2028 school year may be submitted on or after June 1, 2027.
Transfer requests are reviewed in the order they are received and can only be approved if there is space available in the requested grade level at the receiving school.

Important: Grade-level capacity is not finalized until after July 1 for the school year you are requesting. Because of this, families will not receive transfer approval notifications until after July 1.

Q: Can I transfer my student?
A: Yes. Families may request an intra-district transfer, but approvals are not guaranteed.

Transfers are reviewed and approved one school year at a time. This means that if your transfer is approved for the 2026–2027 school year, it may not be approved in future years, depending on available space at the requested school.

If your transfer is approved, transportation is not provided. Families are responsible for transporting their student to and from school each day.

Q: When can I submit a transfer application?

A: Transfer applications can be submitted when enrollment opens in the spring for the school year you are requesting.

For example, if you want to request a transfer for the 2027–2028 school year, you would submit your application when enrollment opens in spring 2027.

Q: We were notified of the new school sites for upcoming school years. While looking at the map, our street has been left off. Is this an error, or does this mean we are now out of Piedmont Public Schools?

A: Yes, you are still within Piedmont Public Schools district boundaries. The overall district boundaries did not change. Only the attendance areas for certain elementary and intermediate schools were adjusted.

We are currently working with the Canadian County Assessor’s Office to produce official boundary maps. Once those maps are finalized, the updated version will be posted.

Q: The updated map shows my neighborhood as Piedmont ECC, but ECC is currently an early childhood site. Will ECC serve elementary grades in the future?

A: Yes. Beginning in the 2027–2028 school year, all elementary schools in Piedmont Public Schools, including Piedmont ECC, will serve students in Pre-K through 4th grade.

Q: How will the new district boundaries affect my child’s school enrollment? Will I need to do anything?

A: Your child’s enrollment will be automatically transferred based on the address we have on file. No action is needed on your part.

Q: Why are some boundary areas much larger than others?

A: Boundary sizes are based on student population, not geography. The north side of our district includes more rural farmland, so the boundary area is larger. The east side is more densely populated, so the boundary area is smaller.

Q: Will the same electives and courses be offered at both intermediate schools?
A: Yes, the same courses will be offered at both school sites.
