Piedmont High School Senior, Tobias Johnson, was selected as a United States Senate Youth Delegate. Only two students from each state are selected to participate in the United States Senate Youth Program’s Washington Week March 7 through 14, 2020. Additionally, Johnson will receive a $10,000 scholarship for undergraduate education.

During Washington Week, Johnson will participate in meetings with the President of the United States and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, he will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense, and directors from other federal agencies.

"I’m extremely honored to have been chosen as a United States Senate Youth Delegate," Johnson said. "I look forward to representing Piedmont and our great state on a national level and learning from fellow student leaders from across the country. I’m also ecstatic to meet with and hear from our federal leaders such as President Trump, Chief Justice Roberts, and Senators Lankford and Inhofe."

Johnson has filled his resume with experiences to lead him to this point. He is the State President for the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils, served as an American Legion Boys Nation Senator, was a delegate for Leadership Oklahoma's Youth Leadership program, and more. He plans to attend Columbia University in the City of New York and major in political science and economics. Upon graduation, he aspires to attend Yale Law School before clerking on the Supreme Court. He then hopes to work for the Becket Fund, a religious liberty nonprofit law firm, before entering public service through elected office or the judiciary.

"What an honor it is to have Tobias representing our schools on a national level," Superintendent Dr. James White said. "We are proud of this young man and his many accomplishments."

Congratulations, Tobias!
