Pride of Piedmont Places 2nd at State

Congratulations to The Pride of Piedmont, Director James Rivera, and
Assistant Directors Sarah Workun and Mary Hoke! The Pride of Piedmont
traveled to Bixby last Saturday for the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association
Marching Contest. After an impressive preliminary performance, they were
seated third in 5A. Almost twelve hours later, they took the field again and
gave an incredible performance, earning a score of 82.25-- the highest
they've earned since their state win in 2013. The night culminated in the
award of second place!!

Drumline Senior, Johnathan Tully, summed it up well, "This past weekend
still feels somewhat surreal. It was bittersweet as it marked an end to five
years of great times and hard work, but provided a perfect ending to an
amazing season. As always, emotions were very high for our last
performance, which I believe propelled it to our best performance of the
year. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better ending to my final season.
Seeing everyone's pride and emotion after we left the field made it an
unforgettable experience."

XCountry History

Congratulations to the PHS Cross Country Team, Coach Kelly Beck, and
Assistant Coach Brad Brucker! The Boys' XC Team did something that no
other PHS Cross Country team has ever done--they won the State 5A Boys
Cross Country Championship!! When asked about the impressive season,
Coach Beck shared, "The boys" team lost state last year by only five points
to Guymon. They used that as fuel all summer and through the season.
Seniors Blake Cope, Jadon Barker, and Paul Welch were our three best and
three hardest working runners. They set the tone for the whole team.
Sophomore Beckam Hartis and Junior Jacob Brightwell were greatly
improved from last year and we added a talented freshman, Tanner Bailey.
Those three, along with returning varsity runner, Garrett Bickley, were able
to be closer to our senior runners in the races, which kept our scores lower.
"The Boys' team brought home the hardware all season-- wins at Carl Albert,
Titan Invitational, Edmond Pre-State, Suburban Conference, Regionals, and
State. In addition, our XC Boys set a record for the lowest score EVER in a
5A Boys' Championship Race with a score of 28. Coach Beck is already looking to next year. While the team is losing their top three runners, he's confident in the prospects for next year. With two state medalists, two top-twenty state runners, and the talent coming up from the JV runners, he's looking to continue being at the top of 5A Cross Country.
