School Bond Information

A school bond is used by school districts to fund capital improvement projects, provide instructional materials, and improve transportation needs. These measures are placed on election ballots by school boards to be considered by the voting public. School bonds require a super-majority vote of 60 percent to pass.

Piedmont Public Schools District Analysis and Planning

 

Bond Issue 2016

Voters approved the two bond proposals (Proposal 1: $70.7M that covered expansions and renovations. Proposal 2: $1M that covered student transportation & buses) on August 23rd, 2016, with an overwhelming majority.
 
Proposition 1: Yes - 1,336 (74.02%); No - 469 (25.98%)
Proposition 2: Yes - 1,366 (75.51%); No - 443 (24.49%)
 
The following projects were included in the bond proposals:
 
Piedmont Early Childhood Center:
  • New School Facility for all pre-k and kindergarten classes
  • FEMA certified safe rooms
  • 36 classrooms
 Piedmont Elementary:
  • New cafeteria
  • New FEMA certified safe room gymnasium
  • Will serve as a community storm shelter
 Northwood Elementary:
  • FEMA certified safe rooms
  • 6 new classrooms
 Piedmont High School:
  • 38 Additional Classrooms (10 Science Labs)
  • Home Economics Classroom 
  • Severe & Profound Special Education Classroom
  • New & Expanded Cafeteria
  • Media Center
  • Computer Lab
  • Video Recording Studio
  • Concurrent Lounge
  • Weight Room
  • Pom & Cheer Practice Room
  • FEMA Certified Safe Rooms
  • Additional Parking, Offices & Hallway Space
 Athletic Facilities:
  • New baseball and softball fields located on the high school campus
  • New turf and track for the football and soccer field
  • New indoor athletic facility
District-wide:
  • New buses
  • Replacement of district air conditioners
 

Bond Issue 2020

Voters approved the $35.7 million bond proposal on February 11, 2020 with 61.32 percent of the 1,541 votes cast.
 
The following projects were included in the bond proposal:
 
Middle School of Piedmont:
  • FEMA safe room
  • Secure entrance
  • Connection of buildings
  • Additional classrooms
  • New media center
  • New cafeteria, gym, band room
  • New middle school offices
Piedmont Athletic Center:
  • State-of-the-art facility designed for growth, accessibility, and amenities expected of a championship district
  • Seating for 1,900 patrons
 
Pride of Piedmont Band Program:
  • Funds to purchase new equipment and instruments
  • New band room at middle school
