Substitute Teachers

Thank you for your interest in becoming a substitute teacher at Piedmont Schools!
 
Requirements for Substitute Teaching:
Piedmont Schools aims to provide a safe learning environment for students in the absence of their regularly assigned classroom teacher. Substitute teachers who are 19-21 years of age may only substitute for students in grades Pre-K through 6th grade. Substitute teachers are utilized on an as-needed basis.
 
Returning Substitute Teachers:
Step 1: Complete the annual Vector training.
 
This must be completed each school year before you can begin working. If you need help logging in, please email the substitute scheduler.
 
Step 2: Once you have finished your Vector training, you will be reactivated in Red Rover and can begin filling jobs.
 
*Substitutes must work during the previous year in order to avoid a break in service. An employee who has had a break in service is required to have a criminal history record check report on file that is less than 5 years old.
 
New Substitute Teachers:
Step 1: Complete the online application (https://piedmont.schoolspring.com/) and provide two references.
 
*Returning substitutes who did not work the previous year will be considered new.
 
**References: A good personal reference should be someone who can speak positively and specifically about your professional work experience and style. It can be a current or former supervisor, peer, colleague at work, or mentor. No family/relatives.
 
Step 2: Make an appointment at a satellite site with Idemia/Identogo (https://ok.state.identogo.com/) for a National criminal history background check and fingerprinting ($58.25 fee), this is required by the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
 
*The applicant is responsible for any cost associated with the background check.
 
Step 3: Plan on attending one of our mandatory training sessions for new substitute teachers at the Piedmont Schools Administration Building (615 Edmond Road NW, Piedmont, OK 73078). See below for training dates and times.
 
Upcoming Sessions:
Attendees only need to be present at one training session.
  • Monday, August 24 at 9 AM
  • Wednesday, September 2 at 1 PM
  • Monday, September 28 at 9 AM
  • Tuesday, October 6 at 1 PM
  • Monday, October 26 at 9 AM
  • Monday, November 2 at 9 AM

Step 4: Complete all the necessary paperwork and submit receipt from the background check with Idemia/Identogo.

*Please note that all offers of employment are conditional and contingent upon successful background screening and board approval.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reports to the building principal or school secretary 30 minutes before school starts.
  • Reviews all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that effectively utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.  This also includes assigning homework, grading material, etc. if necessary.
  • Consults as appropriate, with the building principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the teacher's lesson plans.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.  
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

Substitute Pay

  • $75/day for support staff/paraprofessional
  • $75/day for non-certified substitutes
  • $85/day for certified substitutes
  •  $100/day for non-certified long-term substitute (more than 20 days in the same classroom consecutively; increased pay rate will be applied on day 21.)
  •  $150/day for certified long-term substitute (more than 20 days in the same classroom consecutively; increased pay rate will be applied on day 21.)

*Substitute teachers must hold a valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate to be considered a certified substitute teacher.

Important Background Information:

Applicants register for a fingerprint appointment at the closest satellite site. To schedule a background check, follow the steps below:

1. Visit https://ok.state.identogo.com/ in your web browser
2. Enter service code 2B7KRR
3. Select district “Piedmont Public Schools”
4. Schedule your appointment
 

*You will need to submit a receipt after you complete your fingerprinting to the substitute scheduler.

**If you receive a background check for certification, the SDE will require another background check for employment purposes. For more information, check out the SDE website.
